Ninty Dominate Japan’s 2012 Sales Charts

In news that will likely surprise no one except a dead tortoise named Cecil, white-plastic merchants Nintendo dominated 2012′s sales charts in Japan.  While other platforms have a notoriously difficult time gaining a foothold in Japan, Ninty have once again shown the competition who’s boss, especially in the handheld realm.  Indeed, ten out of the top twenty bestsellers are for either the DS or 3DS, whereas Sony’s PS Vita is left out in the cold.  While Sony made a few inroads with the PS3, it was clearly Ninty’s party last year, with Pokemon Black/white 2 hogging the number one spot, as expected.

We may still point and laugh at Ninty’s mainstream console offerings, but you have to hand it to them as far as handhelds go.  Except that ridiculous thumbstick add-on.  Seriously.

Those charts in full:

  • 1 – Pokemon Black/White 2 – [DS]
  • 2 – Animal Crossing: New Leaf – [3DS]
