About the author...
Deputy Editor of GamingLives
I first started playing games when I was five years old and my parents bought me a Game Boy. I'd like to think that they didn't realise their mistake until it was too late, as the following year I was bought an N64, and I was slowly introduced to PC gaming via an old computer that introduced me to genres I'd never have even considered otherwise. Some of my favourite childhood memories involve playing Nintendo or Monkey Island, and as such they hold a special place in my heart, and can only be accessed after completing three trials and discovering a unique use for a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle.
I also have a bit of an obsession with comedy and know that, like gaming, you can learn just as much from the bad than you can from the good, and that it sometimes pays to go outside of your comfort zone. I've been writing for several years, though most of that comedy with my best friend Will that'll probably (and for some people, hopefully) never see the light of day. I tend to have some pretty strong and strange opinions about a lot of things, and I tend to hope that the ridiculous amount of knowledge I have about videogames will come in important one day. Preferably if it lets me save the day and get the girl, I'm not bothering if she's in another castle again.
Outside of GamingLives I've run four series of the award winning radio show "Life's A Game" at my University, which has since become a podcast, and was the whole reason that I now write here. Since joining the site, I've made some awesome friends, worked at Ginx TV, met industry legends and had a fucking awesome time of it all. Every now and then I still have to pinch myself and check that I'm awake and not really asleep half-naked in a freezing cold room in the middle of an exam for a test I didn't revise for. Not that I've given it much thought.
When I'm not writing here, I'm either writing on my own blog at jokesound.com (which mostly contains the Life's A Game podcasts and focuses less on writing about games), Tweeting (@Jokesound), and sometimes even playing games! Crazy, right?
