I’m a 23 year old multi-platform gamer and I’ve been playing for as long as I can remember. I started on my parents’ Sega Mega Drive, with Sonic being my choice of poison. It took me a while to get anywhere near competent, being fairly young, but it was only a matter of years before I was playing my first FPS – Duke Nukem 3D – on the family PC at an age perhaps just a little too young to be playing a game rated 18.

I play every day without fail, and I’ve invested both thousands of pounds and hours into my passion. I have more games and consoles than I can care to count, and I’ve ran out of space for my Guitar Hero peripherals. I’m one of those now-rare gamers who loathes the idea of being a “fanboy”. I play a reasonable balance of PS3, 360 and PC just so I can experience as many great exclusives as I can; I hate the idea of being deprived from a great triple A title (such as Metal Gear Solid 4 or Gears of War 3) just because of my console of choice!

Outside of gaming, I graduated in 2010 with a Film degree and as such spend a lot of my time outside of gaming watching film and television; I can (and often do, to the dismay of my friends) talk for days about movies or shows I can recommend. I also recently worked as a temp. in a GAME store, but in some ways I’m glad I wasn’t kept on after the Christmas period. I’ve always been told you shouldn’t mix work and passion, and I guess they were right! The most frustrating aspect wasn’t the endless stupid questions I’d get (one woman didn’t realise Kinect required an Xbox to operate), but it was having to hold back blurting out my opinions on genuinely bad games people were about to buy.

Which leads me to a great place to conclude! I’m a very opinionated gamer, who would probably spend more time writing and/or complaining about different aspects of the industry if I didn’t spend as much as time as I do grinding through the pain of kill-stealers, screaming American kids and pain-in-the-ass achievements on a daily basis. My proudest moment through all my years of gaming would be that I used to hold the world record for the fastest speed run on Metal Gear Solid 4 with the “Big Boss” emblem, until I was fairly quickly bested by a Japanese kid… is there anything they can’t do better than us?
