Day 23: Part Deux

Afternoon everyone.

Another simple one for today as I stave off the effects of sleep deprivation. What is your favourite sequel to a game? They always say the original is better than anything that can follow on from it, but what game surpassed the original in your opinion!?

Answers on a postcard or below if you fancy something quicker!

Probably Assassin's Creed II as it's the best sequel I can think of, when you directly compare the first and second games. Uncharted 2 was way better than 1, but the difference between AC1 and 2 was astronomical.

Most game sequels are better than the originals, at least unless the sequel fatigue has already set in, they give it to Obsidian to do (I'm looking at you, KOTOR 2) or it's Dragon Age 2.

That said, Just Cause 2 is pretty amazing, as is System Shock 2; Mass Effect 2 is an obvious one...Sim City 2000 maybe, or Civ 2. No way I can just pick one.

True to an extent but I can think of plenty originals that are better..

KOTOR as you said, Bioshock, Call of Duty, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Doom 2 (better than 3) Red Faction etc.

Resident Evil 4. It redefined the horror genre completely and hasn't been bested yet.

It had all the best action, boss battles and scares. 10/10. No question.

Populous 2, Diablo 2 & Medieval Total War 2 were the standout ones for me that had great originals in their own right but managed to pull something amazing out of the bag for the second outing. Few games manage that for me, it's usually more of the same or a vast improvement over a mediocre/shite game - neither of which are that difficult to pull off yet people still fuck it up royally!

Also Saints Row 3 was better than both 1 and 2.

From what I've played of it so far, BL2 is going to surpass the original! And that's saying something

I genuinely can't think of anything. Or rather, anything in particular. I can think of a ton of sequels that I like, but nothing that stands out as way better than it's predecessor.
