    Default XNA wheat:chaff identification thread.

Xbox 360 Indie games are shit.

Except for when they are good and it happens occasionally.

Off the top of my head.

I Made A Game With Zombies In It - 80MSP - twin-stick shooter that has the best soundtrack ever and is a decent high-score shooter for bragging rights. No online leaderboards but if you need a marker... 850,280.

Shoot 1UP - 80MSP - it looks like an Amiga game and is a vertical scrolly shooter. It's also completely brilliant and innovative. You control a legion of ships (rather than having lives) and tear ass through lots of quite brown levels.

Groov - 80MSP - twin-stick Geometry Wars clone with amazing music and half-decent gameplay. Worth a look but the gameplay goes out of the window when you realise that staying in one corner is the key to survival.

Solar - 80MSP - an interesting curio where you get to play as the sun. No, not the newspaper/comic for the unwashed masses. The huge thing in the sky. Gets old quick but is charming.

Arkedo Swap/Jump/Pixel - 240MSP each - high quality old-school retro style games that look beautiful and play pretty decently as well. Bit pricey though.

Decimation X - Space Invaders but with about a million bullets and some decent power-ups. Not nearly as stylish as Space Invaders Extreme (XBLA) but a lot more fun. A tenth of the price too (80M$P).

Pixelkiller - old school platformer with rubbish shooting. Like N+ but with no inertia. Not great. Cheap though.

Look, I know. I know that 99.9% of Indie games are shit and we'd all rather stick our collective genitalia that volcano in Iceland than pay 240M$P for one but I'm telling you that MotorHEAT is the best risk v reward game ever made. Better than Qix even. It's just so perfect.

I've bought two of those games, when they were still called Xbox Live Community Games, and I was underwhelmed by them in the long run, because I was working under the assumption that what I initially played was similar to XBLA games; a demo, not the full-featured actual game just with a time limit. So I was pretty miffed to find out that nothing was added other than I could play for more than 10 minutes.

So whilst I have been reading this topic, I hadn't said much because I've been put off bothering with Indie games. I have too many retail and XBLA games waiting to be finished anyway. It's not that you're being totally ignored though, for what it's worth, heh.

my whole last post is really about the sheer wonderfulness of MotorHEAT as opposed to any XNA thread apathy!

OOOH! Check out Apple Jack. It's a bit of a Mario clone/homage but it's just lovely.

Vampire Rage - 80pts - very impressive, Cave-esque vertical shooter with decent graphics and great gameplay. A seriously competant game, well worth the spendage.

I rather enjoy the madness of ZP845K or whatever its called, not the easiest name to remember.
Its by the guy who did Last-dishwasher & I made a game with zombies... its a solely online affair too, up to 6 players all beating each other down with various weapons.

Miner Dig Deep is a lovely little game too, idea of that is to just dig deep.. sounds a bit pants but once you start getting drawn in you easily lose a couple of hours to the depths of the game world, think I've only got upto 3000ft or so.

    Great Leaping Salamanders of Flame!
