    Default Laptop for her indoors

Alright guys, I'm looking at getting a laptop for the missus for chrimbo but could do with some recommendations. My budget is about £350 but I suppose I could stretch to £400. It doesn't need to be too fancy but if it could run Sims 3 then that would be sweet.

I've seen one or two but as usual I'd like your collective input just incase there is something somewhere that I've not spotted.

    Thanks!

You're doing it wrong. You spend an absolute fortune on the best laptop money can buy, all modern specs and fast as lightning... then you keep it for yourself while reformatting yours and palming it off on her, that's what being a loving partner is all about.

Only problem with that is I can't afford an all singing, all dancing über laptop of gaming doom so this is the only way forward. Plus if I get her a laptop of her own it frees up my PC for me to play on as at the moment I lose it every now and again to her Sims 3 compulsions.

There are people on here that don't like Dell. I love Dell. I would look on the Dell website, compare the specs required for Sims 3 with what Dell sell and be happy. Ed hates Dell and has had laptops break within 2 years. Or something. MarkuzR hates Dell because you can't upgrade it easily. And he prefers other stuff. Me? I love Dell. Never had an issue with my two Dells and would recommend it with no issues to everyone.

I'm starting to think about doing a u turn on this and just buy her a graphics card for her current desktop. She'll not play the sims anywhere other than the house anyway and if she wants to browse the net whilst sat in the living room or something she'll be able to use my iPad. Seems daft spending a fortune on that when her desktop is more than up to the task if given a graphics upgrade.

4 Major issues in two years, the first two were fatal hard drive errors within the first year, one at Christmas and one the day before the warranty expired.
Around Easter the fan and heatsink completely broke. At the moment, it's frequent blue screens and the hinges are broken to the point where I'm legitimately worried every time I lift or close the lid, so I have to see if I can get it sent off while I go up to Stoke, and pray I get it back in time for work and before my Uni essays are due.

All the PC's i've ever had have been Dell's. Desktops mind you. Never had any problems. Reasonably cheap back in the day, not sure about how, and reliable.

Saying that our family has had around 3 or 4 dell laptops, in the the last 5 years and only one of them currently work. That may be down to my little brother and sister being distructive bastards though....

Oh, and when I phoned up just now, they refused to fix my laptop despite it being under warranty.
Apparently, despite assuring us that the warranty would cover everything (including accidental damage), they're refusing to fix the hinge issue that they know isn't accidental damage because apparently my warranty doesn't cover it.
So after a long argument with the supervisors, they're cutting the warranty short, refunding me half the money, and I'm splitting the costs with my parents and getting a new laptop for christmas.

So, to laptop hunting, I guess.
Just as long as it's not, or ever will be a Dell.
    And it can play games.
