Excellent if it's under £100 now, but then it would help to sell more units until the next Nintendo console is announced and potentially sells by the bucketloads too.

I imagine they're trying to shift existing stock so they don't end up with a stockpile when the new HD console is released, and if people know unequivocally that there'll be an HD console... it's unlikely that they'll want to buy an SD in the meantime. Right now is the perfect time for them to shift as many units as possible.

I agree it's the best time to sell the current console at a reduced price but who would want to buy a used console when a shiny new one is cheaper.

I think, well I HOPE, that it's an error. The way to look at it is this though... if they've already paid out a particular amount when accepting the pre-owned as a trade-in against newer stock, or as an outright cash payment (not sure if they do that) then that will have to balance in their accounts so even if the manufacturer drops the wholesale price to increase the sale of new units to the retail outlets, those outlets still have to make back what they've paid out on existing pre-owned stock. It's like if I went out and bought one hundred XBox 360 "Slim" consoles from a hundred different people at £120 each to sell on at £150 each (making only £3000 profit... which is still a tidy sum) and then suddenly the manufacturer decided that the RRP was now going to be £120 for a brand new item. I could either take my chance at selling the pre-owned and hope I find enough idiots to cover the costs, or I sell them cheaper and make a huge loss.
So yeah, it depends on what the actual protocol is in this instance... but I hope, for their sake anyway (as if I care), that it's an error otherwise they're going to be left with a shitload of pre-owned stock that won't shift.

I don't think it's an error, I see that kind of shit in GAME all the time, with the new copy cheaper than the pre-owned. I asked someone in there once and he said that it was because they'd paid out so much for it in credit to the former owner, and added a fixed percentage to that, and the individual stores were forbidden from lowering that and taking a loss despite the anachronism. I pretty much laughed in his face at the time, it's ridiculous, but it's also kind of hilarious because I hate the whole pre-owned business anyway and at that rate it's going to implode at some point when they wind up with a ton of unshiftable used games and hardware.
I don't think it's an error either because having a look on their site it looks like just the console has reduced but the bundles are still at their previous price. They were doing the Xbon 360 Slim for £159.99 when I was in store at the weekend so maybe they have excess stock of new consoles they want to shift.
Still, shiny black Wii for under £100...

I am very tempted, but with an impending move around the corner I just dare not spend a single penny more than is absolutely necessary at the moment (only essentials right now).
