About the author...
I use letters to form words. I use words to create sentences. Sometimes those sentences are related to videogames, so that’s good.
I like putting words in front of other words. I’ll sometimes go back and take words out and replace them with other words. It’s a novel way to fill up an afternoon and a blank piece of A4 paper. At University, the lecturer of the creative copywriting class accused me of being quite good at arranging words, and thought I took to creative writing like a duck who was able to do something new and be good at it in a short amount of time. One night, while sitting half drunk in my pants watching Cirque du Soleil, I received a text message from my good friend Chris who asked if I would like to write a few articles for Gaming Lives. “I’ll do it!” I cheered. It never occurred to me that Chris wouldn’t be able to hear that, so I didn’t let him know I was keen until I woke up the next afterno – morning after checking my messages.
As luck would have it, I’m quite fond of videogames – a useful trait to have when writing articles for a videogame site. The first game I ever played was Super Mario Bros for the NES back in 1990. My Papa would press the jump button while I would run because, at the tender age of 2, I lacked the coordination to do both by myself. This backfired later that evening when he was trying to get the dinner ready and I kept shouting on him to help me jump Mario over a hole. Coincidentally, when I’m playing games like Call of Duty and Halo online, I sometimes wonder if I still have the coordination of a 2-year old. But then I just remind myself that it’s always my team’s fault and not mine. So there.
