Tesco Rolls Out Pre Owned Scheme

The over saturation of the pre-owned market continues as retail giant Tesco rolls out its trade-in scheme nationwide.  With a national ad campaign highlighting the trade-in deals on offer, Tesco are claiming that the cost of your used games can be redeemed against anything in store.  Games for a BBQ set?  Check.  Games for fudge brownies and a packet of Rolos?  Check.

With one more large retailer now firmly wedged onto the overflowing pre-owned bandwagon, it will no doubt pile more pressure on indie game shops and weary publishers.  Indeed, with many industry bods unhappy with the pre-owned threat to their bottom line, and publishers already introducing moves to combat pre-owned games, we can only expect the fight to get more ferocious.  With EA’s ‘Online Pass’ scheme already stirring up debate and more publishers offering one shot exclusive DLC codes for new games, this is one battle which will likely not be won for a long time.
