Flaming Eye of Microdor: New RROD

In an interesting move to ensure that their new, slim-line version of the Xbox360 won’t red ring, Microsoft have…simply not included any red lights on the new console.  Well, you have to hand it to them for that one.  According to Kotaku who quizzed Microsoft’s support team:

“…while the console won’t display a “red ring” in times of hardware failure, it will still clearly indicate an error by switching its power indicator (the light in the centre of the ring) from green to red.”

Red eye of doom?  Flaming eye of Microdor?  Start queuing up those red eye/pink eye jokes now.  It isn’t all about the light now however…it seems that the new, WeightWatchers version of the Xbox will switch itself off if not properly ventilated, with Kotaku reporting the shutdown message as being:

“The Xbox 360 is shutting down to protect the console from insufficient ventilation.  You can turn the console back on after the power light stops flashing.”

So a kindly warning from your friendly neighbourhood Skynet chip not to smother your box of tricks along with a new error warning to launch a thousand jokes (and as many novelty t-shirts).
