El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

After the game’s recent Japanese debut, Ignition Entertainment have announced that El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron will be heading West for the Xbox360 and PlayStation3 sometime in 2011 and will be formally unveiled at E3 2010.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a 3rd person fantasy action title inspired by events in the Old Testament, in particular the apocryphal ‘Book of Enoch’. Enoch is a human, caught up in a pivotal battle raging between Heaven and the Fallen Angels. The player must “…overcome the Fallen Angels in order to save humankind from a great flood ordered by Heaven to wash away their twisted empire on Earth.”  In order to succeed, Enoch must use his natural combat skills and master a range of powerful Heavenly weapons under the guidance of the watchful Archangels.

From a team which includes Sawaki Takeyasu and Masato Kimura, whose credits include Devil May Cry, Okami, and Viewtiful Joe, the game promises to combine adventure, humour, and horror, along with an emotional story and deep gameplay.

“We are taking enormous care to ensure that the game is presented in a manner that preserves its creators’ vision so that, no matter who plays the game or where they are from, this unique creative impulse shines through.”  Said UTV Ignition Entertainment Chairman Hassan Sadiq.

From the handful of screenshots that we’ve seen, the style, while beautiful, won’t appeal to everyone, but it seems that fans of the Japanese RPG/action style may be in for a treat.
