Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Teaser Released

It’s been over two years since we first stumbled upon a tiny indie game’s press release, buried on a media server and were sent a review code.  Amnesia: The Dark Descent was a terrifying game, and one which we confidently predicted would become something of a hit, in our review.  We were right.  Hundreds of YouTube scare videos later and Amnesia has become a runaway success, with people all over the world either terrifying themselves with the deeply atmospheric title, or simply happy to watch others scare themselves silly. We were later lucky enough to grab some time with the developers for an interview.

Some time ago, the team at Frictional Games announced that a sequel was indeed on the way – albeit an indirect one – and that they had teamed up with developers, thechineseroom.  Now a teaser trailer has just seen the light of day, showing off some of the locations, including a few exterior ones, and giving the first nail-biting glimpse of the in-game enemies.  With the game being only an indirect sequel, a new cast and set of locations can be expected this time out.  Set in 1899, the game focuses on a wealthy industrialist, Oswald Mandus, who has returned home from a disastrous expedition to Mexico, whereupon he lies in a fevered state, haunted by terrifying dreams of a dark machine.  He recovers consciousness in his own bed, with no idea of how much time has passed, but as he struggles to his feet, somewhere beneath him, an engine comes to life.

From the odd name to the grisly screenshots, it seems that, once again, Frictional Games will be pulling no punches.  The industrial Victorian setting is an intriguing one for this sort of game and the pig-like enemies, hinted at in the trailer sound suitably disturbing sounding.  The devs are hoping to have this one released in time for Halloween 2012, so prepare for a bombardment of  YouTube videos full of screaming people playing it.
