Naughty Bear Follow-Up Announced

Choices, choices...

After wallowing in the misery of his foes and enjoying a hearty retirement, it seems that gaming’s most homicidal bear since Kamikaze graced the pages of Sinclair User is back.  Yes, a Naughty Bear sequel is on the way.  The first game was released in June 2010 to mixed reviews, with many gamers surprised that the graphics, repetitive gameplay and limited locations hadn’t earmarked it as an XBLA title, rather than a full priced retail release.  Well, it seems that 505 Games won’t be making that mistake again and the follow up – Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise – will be hitting XBLA, rather than the store shelves this time around.

Players will once again take on the role of island outcast, the grizzled looking and misunderstood Naughty.  Following the trend of the first game, our anti-hero is once again shunned by the inhabitants of Perfection Island – perhaps something to do with him decimating their number in the previous title – and have callously set off on a jolly jaunt to the luxury holiday resort of Paradise Island, leaving Naughty behind.  Carnage will ensue when he catches up with them, we’ve no doubt.

“Following the success of our first outing with Naughty Bear, we really wanted to push the limits and give players a lot more freedom to be as naughty as they can and help Naughty Bear get revenge on the other bears who have been so mean to him,” said Victoria Reeve, Senior Global Brand Manager, 505 Games. “With the first Naughty Bear game audiences responded well to the juxtaposition of cuddly innocence, with dark humour and over the top violence.  We’re really looking forward to seeing what they make of all the great new features we’ve packed into Naughty Bear: Panic in Paradise.”

The combat system has been overhauled and a new leveling system introduced, along with the chance for players to customise their weaponry (with thousands of combos said to be available).  The game takes place across eleven distinct areas this time out, thankfully offering a greater variety than the first title, and there are 30 missions to work through (with more undoubtedly to follow later as DLC if the first title was anything to go by).

Expect an Autumn 2012 release.
