Borderlands 2 Confirmed

We all knew it was bound to happen sooner or later, and today’s announcement from Gearbox Software that Borderlands 2 will be out in 2012 has come sooner than most expected but later than many had hoped.  From out of nowhere, Borderlands emerged on the scene to rave reviews and their boast of 87 bajillion different weapons took procedurally generated content to another level entirely.  Word has already circulated that there will be new classes introduced to the sequel, so whether it’s still possible to play as the Mariusz Pudzianowski clone, “Brick”, or the sexy fiery-haired phase shifter, Lilith, is anyone’s guess.

With this month’s Game Informer featuring Borderlands 2 on the cover along with a twelve page feature, the rumour mills are bound to grind to a halt as they’ll be detailing the latest environments, missions, enemies and, presumably, another several bajillion weapons.  Everything thus far seems to point to the long-awaited sequel being set in Pandora, although the official website does make mention of a world beyond Pandora, “Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.”

All that we can tell you for sure at this moment is that Borderlands 2 will be released on the usual suspects of Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows PC at some point after April 2012.  Hang on to your hats though, as it has been confirmed that we’ll be meeting with Gearbox at GamesCom, so as soon as we know more about it… you will too. In the meantime, keep your meat puppet eyes fixed on www.borderlands2.com for updates.
Pew pew pew, it’s gun wave time!!

Well hello there!!! The smile spreading across my face is huge. Absolutely huge. I have no idea how many times I’ve played through Borderlands now, not including partial playthroughs with alternative characters… but even though I’m playing through it AGAIN on PC right now, I’m still not bored. Crawmerax runs FTW.

I can’t wait for GamesCom now. Hell yeah. Hope Moxxi’s there.
