Marvel Vs Capcom: Origins Thrashes Its Way to XBLA and PSN

Riding on the success of the generally well-received Marvel Vs Capcom 3 games that came out last year, it seems Capcom want to remind us all the franchise is still alive and kicking (and capable of turning a profit). The developers announced that a surprise remaster of the 2-D original Marvel Super Heroes, and its successor Marvel Vs Capcom: Clash of Superheroes – shipping together as MvC: Origins – will be available on XBLA and PSN, in September, for 1200MSP and £15 respectively.

The remastered versions of the games will bring the same style of gameplay as the snazzy new versions, but pared down a little. Anyone who’s played the games will know just what to expect from such an offering – the 1v1 bouts and Infinity Gem system are bought along in Marvel Super Heroes, while the madcap 2v2 fights (and frankly mental Team Attacks and Assists) are available in MvC: Clash of Superheroes. Characters such as Captain America, Wolverine, Magneto, Juggernaut, Strider Hiryu, Ryu, Chun Li and Mega-Man are playable throughout both games, with heroes from both sides beefing up the roster. The game also features some interestingly named “dynamic challenges”, which will hopefully big a little more engaging than the practice-room combo challenges on offer in recent MvC titles.

The remastered arcade favourites also come with enhanced online functionality – eight-player lobbies, Spectator Mode and Replay Saving will all be available for players, hopefully making this a slightly less fraught online experience than the one the MvC2 remake offered a few years back. Needless to say, the game will be remastered in glorious HD, and – as ever – it looks like its already got a lot of Marvel fanboys hot under their caped collars.
