Crytek In Favour Of Pre-Owned Block For Next Gen
by GL News
With more rumours rumbling on that the next generation of consoles will feature some kind of pre-owned blocking tech., Rasmus Højengaard, director of creative development at Crytek has pitched in to support the notion, saying:
“It’s weird that [second-hand sales] are still allowed because it doesn’t work like that in any other software industries, so it would be great if they could somehow fix that issue as well.”
With many publishers and developers against the pre-owned market, which has eroded profits that could be ploughed into future development, the introduction of this tech would likely come as a welcome addition. How this would effect consumers, on the other hand, is a different story. We suspect that if one next gen console goes down that route, they all will, as such a bold move would likely alienate and anger a great many gamers to the point of pushing them on to a new console platform. A unified front in that respect seems like the logical path, but time will tell. Now, if they can just crack piracy, we can all go for a cup of tea.
