Assassin’s Creed III Collector’s Editions Revealed
by GL News
We’ve said it time and again that we love our collector’s editions, here at GLHQ, but all too frequently we’re disappointed by either the aesthetics, the contents, or both, with many releases over the last few years showing a lack of imagination or decent content beyond the tired steelbook/in-game costumes etc. Stepping up to the special edition plate today, however, is Ubisoft, with the reveal of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed III collector’s editions… and we have to say that we are actually reasonably impressed (pics below). In a move that will send collector-whores into a spiral of despair, there are two fancy editions to lighten our pockets: the ‘Freedom Edition’ and the ‘Join or Die Edition’. There is a third ‘special edition’, but it only contains the bare minimum of extras and we’ve got our eyes on the tastier stuff.
Both collector’s sets, surprisingly, look damn good, with gorgeous packaging and some decent content. Yes, there is the usual in-game content that seems to be a staple of almost every special edition on the planet these days, and the steelbook inside the Freedom Edition is passé, but Washington’s Notebook looks pretty special. With touchy-feely stuff (and even manuals) being slowly eroded by the digital tidal wave, we love to get our hands on some decent papery product here at GL, and this book has firmly grabbed our attention by the dangly bits. That and the figurine. Did we mention the packaging?
As for the sets overall, the battlelines are firmly drawn here at GLHQ as to which one looks better, but that dilemma likely won’t trouble hardcore collectors, as they will no doubt be double-dipping in order to get all the goodies (so will some of our lunatic writers… mentioning no names *cough* Lorna *cough* – Ed.). All sets can be ordered from the Ubi online store – http://shop.ubi.com/assassinscreed3 – and the prices come in at the following:
Special Edition: Xbox/PS3 – £49.99. PC – £34.99
Join Or Die Edition: Xbox/PS3 – £64.99. PC – £34.99
Freedom Edition: Xbox/PS3 – £79.99. PC – £59.99.
Thank goodness they won’t be Play.com exclusives in the UK or there’s a good chance they’d come mashed to a pulp like our last AC set – we still haven’t quite recovered from that experience.
