Another Kick Arse Dead Island Set On The Way
by GL News
So far, here at GLHQ, a few of the collectors among us have been distinctly underwhelmed by the lack of innovation and interesting features of the recently revealed crop of collector’s editions of the heavy AAA hitters, due out this Autumn/Winter. That was until we saw the Dead Island Gore Edition. We recently got some hands on time with the game at E3 2011 and you can read our preview here, but before we continue talking about the set, feast your eyes…
The Dead Island Gore (or ‘Survival’) Edition features the following:
- Game manual
- Soundtrack
- DVD with wallpapers, screenshots and trailers
- Cellphone strap
- Door hanger
- Rescue glow-sticks
- Survival first aid kit
- Rescue whistle
- Compass
- Thermometer
- Magnifying glass
- Multi-tool
- Binoculars
- Flashlight
- Water bottle
- Surival gadgets bag
- Two-sided poster
- Polo shirt
- ‘Bloodbath’ DLC
- Ripper recipe
- Brain Wave Bomb recipe
Yes. It is for real. Yes, it will likely cost the Earth and several outlying astral bodies. No, so far, it hasn’t been slated for a UK release. Are we surprised? Not in the slightest. Everyone else always seems to get the best sets, but Dead Island has taken first, second, and third place in thumbing its bloody nose at UK collectors. While we can only wrinkle our noses up at the meagre ‘Special Edition’ on offer at GAME, other countries can sit back feeling smug at the purdy sets ripe for pre-ordering. How about this offering from Iceland and Austria, known as the Red Edition:
Features of Dead Island Red Edition include:
- Steelcase
- Bloodbath messenger bag
- Bloodbath Beach towel
Bloodbath arena DLC:
4 different kinds of arenas featuring dangerous, deadly, and endless waves of Zombies in single or co-op multiplayer in which you can earn experience and items for use in the campaign. It also features a leaderboard to challenge your friends and…
- a new, cruel weapon: sonic pulse grenade
- Special weapon the Ripper – a deadly combination of a baseball bat and chainsaw
Pre-order bonuses:
- Key chain
- peppermint tin
- Dead Island Artwork Poster
How about this other, rarer one from Austria, known as the Treasure Edition – these sets will be extremely rare. Every copy will be unique, numbered and will contain a certificate of authenticity:
The Dead Island Treasure Edition includes:
- Handmade wooden Treasure Box
- Dead Island Polo- Shirt
- The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks, comic book by Max Brooks, 144 pages (German)
- Exclusive set of postcards
- Exclusive DLC (likely to be the ‘Bloodbath’ content from all other sets)
Crying into your suddenly-paltry UK bonus content yet? We are. If importing doesn’t phase you, then check out gamesonly.at, game4game.at, and Ultima.pl for the chance to pre-order. Most e-commerce sites aren’t too hard to fathom, even in another language (free translators will be your friend), so don’t feel put off if you must have one of these zombie-flaying sets of loveliness; your shelves will thank you, even if your wallet won’t.
