Gears of War 3 Delayed

Fans of bullet-spraying Space Marines will be weeping into their Cog-Tags at the announcement that Gears of War 3 has slithered down the releases schedules by at least five months.  The eagerly-awaited third installment in the Gears franchise was on course for a 2011 Easter release, however, it has now been pushed back to snag one of the Autumn spots, presumably to mark its territory early, before next years schedules begin to fill.

In a statement to Kotaku, Microsoft have said:  “The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the spring of 2011. However, we’ve elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season.”

While the game’s executive producer, Rod Fergusson, has been quick to state that it is a business decision and not a quality issue, it has left as much speculation as it has disappointment.  Whether they genuinely want to dominate the Autumn schedules or simply give Epic’s other shooter, Bulletstorm (on course for a February 2011 release), some room to play, it is unknown.  Still, regardless, it will be little consolation for Gears fans…though Bulletstorm could soothe the hurt somewhat if it plays as good as it looked at E3.
