Blizzard’s Writing Contest Quest

Blizzard are summoning the brave and the bold to prove their skills and compete….in a writing contest.  With an eye popping prize at stake, this is the chance for any aspiring writers or Warcraft devotees to prove once and for all that the pen is mightier than the sword…even if that sword comes with +10 fire damage.

After the success of last year’s contest, Blizzard are once again throwing open the challenge and inviting aspiring writers and creatives to submit their parchments full of inky scratchings to the cadre of judges – official Blizzard writers.  Simply produce an original 2,500 – 7,500 word short story set in the Warcraft, StarCraft, or Diablo universe before August 23rd, 2010 to be in with a chance.

So, what is the grand prize on offer, aside from massive kudos?  The chance to visit the official Blizzard headquarters and meet the staff and writers behind the lore of Blizzard’s vastly popular games and books.  Not only that, but the winner will receive their choice of an exclusive item namely either a Diablo III “OVERTHROWN” barbarian diorama or a Frostmourne sword.

On a personal note, after checking out the pictures of the potential goodies, we think that you’d have to be insane not to pick the sword.  Just good luck to any UK winner trying to get that baby back through customs…

Seven runners up will each snag a prize package of the Diablo Archive, the Warcraft Archive, the StarCraft Archive, and the Warcraft: War of the Ancients Archive, all signed by Chris Metzen, the cover artists, and Blizzard’s writing staff.

So if WoW, Diablo, or StarCraft rock your socks off and you fancy putting pen to paper, head over to the official Blizzard site and check up on the FAQs or simply submit your stuff.  Good luck…don’t forget us when you’re famous.

Hmm… the inclusion of Diablo as a potential setting makes this intriguing. That and the awesome sword. Who knows. I may have to look into noodling around, see if some kind of inspiration strikes.
